KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested nine members of the Human Rights Party during a demonstration over the controversial Malay literature textbook Interlok at Batu Caves near here Thursday.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said they were arrested for obstructing the police from carrying out their duties.
They were demonstrating outside the Batu Cave just as the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived for the Thaipusam festival.
A scuffle broke out between policemen and the demonstrators when they tried to break through police barricades near the temple gate.
Party secretary-general P. Uthayakumar claimed some of party members were injured during the scuffle. - theStar
