Demah Cinak, a 43-year-old masseuse, was found dead in the back alley of her house with stab wounds in her abdomen while her 28-year-old daughter had stab wounds in her back.
An eyewitness, Norfarhana Zamir, 16, said she was doing her laundry when she heard a commotion in Demah’s house.
She said a man with his face covered in blood suddenly came out of the house.
“He was in shock and asked for a glass of water to clean himself. I then saw another man coming out of the back alley of the victim’s house and running towards a nearby hypermarket,” she said.
Norfarhana, who lives a few metres from the victims’ house, said she did not pay much attention to the noises coming from the house as it was a frequent occurrence.
She said she was shocked when a neighbour shouted that the two victims were lying in the back alley in pools of blood.
Norfarhana said she rushed there and saw Demah critically wounded and her daughter still had a knife stuck in her back.
She said the first man then ran away when he saw neighbours approaching the victim’s house.
Johor Baru (North) OCPD Asst Comm Ruslan Hassan said a 30-year-old suspect, believed to be a local, was arrested in the area after he was found behaving suspiciously.
He said Demah’s body was sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for a post mortem while her daughter was warded at the same hospital.
“We are investigating the motive of the crime and urge those with information to contact the police hotline at 07-221 2999 or lodge a report at the nearest police station,” he said. - theStarOnline
