KEMAMAN: A 13-year-old girl froze in terror during a five-hour ordeal, hearing her mother's screams as robbers beat the woman up at their home in Taman Desa Darul Iman here.

The teenager, who hid in her room during the break-in at about 11.30pm on Saturday, was helpless throughout the incident.

The father was away on a business trip to Kota Baru.

Neighbours went over to the house only at about 4am to find the front door ajar and saw the 53-year-old woman lying unconscious in her bed.

The intruders had tied her up and used duct-tape to gag her.

The neighbours then found the girl, who is in Form One, squatting and shivering in fear in her bedroom.

The woman, known as Kak Yah, suffered injuries on her face and body believed to have been caused by blunt objects.

She died 15 minutes after arriving at the Kemaman Hospital.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said the girl, whose identity was withheld pending investigations, was traumatised by the ordeal and was being given counselling.

He said jewellery and electrical items were found missing from the home, adding that a post-mortem revealed that the woman had died of suffocation.

ACP Manoharan said police were on the hunt for the killers.
